TCP/IP REFERENCE MODEL?

TCP/IP reference model is Similar as the OSI Model. Actually this model is Compressed and Better than OSI model. This type of model has less layer Compared to the OSI model.TCP/IP reference model is created by DARPA (Defense Advance Research Project Agency). TCP/IP Reference model has four layer.

                                                          TCP/IP reference model

1.Link layer :-

Link layer is equivalent  to the DATA-LINK LAYER and PHYSICAL LAYER . This layer define the Protocol and hardware requirement  to send data across a physical Network. Ethernet and PPP are the main protocol used by link layer.

2.Internet :-

In TCP/IP reference model Internet layer  is used to define PROTOCOL for Logical Transmission of Packet over the Network. INTERNET PROTOCOL (IP) is used to provide logical address in the network.

3.Transport layer :-

The main work of Transport layer is to  provide reliable transmission of data. This layer also responsible for Error free Delivery of data. The protocols used in Transport layer are Transmission control protocol (TCP) and User datagram protocol (UDP).

4.Application layer :-

The Application layer of TCP/IP model is equivalent to the Session, Presentation and Application layer of OSI model.  The use of this layer is to provide  Node-to-Node application communication and provide service to your software running on computer. HTTP, POP3 ,SMTP are main protocol used for application layer.

The figure shows the comparision between TCP/IP model and OSI model.
